Global Companies in India Change Hiring Strategy as AI Changes Skill Demand
Global companies operating in India are slowly changing the way they hire employees as artificial intelligence (AI) continues to transform the workplace. Companies are still hiring, but they are now becoming more careful while selecting candidates because the demand for advanced technology skills is increasing rapidly.
According to industry experts and leaders of Global Capability Centres (GCCs), finding skilled workers with the right technical knowledge and the ability to adapt to new AI tools has become a major challenge.
GCCs are specialized centers set up by multinational companies in countries like India to handle important global work. These centers work on advanced projects such as luxury car dashboard technology, software development, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and even drug discovery for pharmaceutical companies.
India has become one of the biggest hubs for GCCs because of its large tech workforce and growing digital infrastructure. Reports suggest that by the end of fiscal year 2026, India may have more than 2,100 GCCs employing around 2.36 million people and generating nearly $100 billion in revenue.
However, the rise of AI is now changing job requirements. Companies are no longer looking only for traditional coding skills. They want employees who understand AI tools, automation, cloud technology, data analytics, and cybersecurity. Workers are also expected to learn quickly and adapt to changing technologies.
Experts say that while AI may reduce some repetitive jobs, it is also creating new opportunities for highly skilled professionals. Roles related to AI engineering, machine learning, cloud computing, and digital transformation are expected to see strong demand in the coming years.
Many companies are now investing heavily in upskilling programs to train employees in AI and modern technologies. Businesses believe that employees who continuously improve their skills will have better career opportunities in the future job market.
India’s growing GCC sector remains a major source of employment and innovation, but the hiring landscape is clearly changing as AI becomes a bigger part of global business operations.
